The art of making Potpourri is a delightful experience. Using our recipes you can create blends equal to those found only in the finest boutiques. We have carefully designed our potpourri recipes so that fragrance and appearance will complement each other. You may wish to adjust them to your own artistic preferences.

Instructions: In a non-metallic bowl or grocery bag, mix together flowers, petals, leaves, and dyed potpourri items. In a separate container, combine fixatives (such as oak moss, cellulose fiber, citrus peels, spices and woody pods and cones). Fixatives help absorb, perserve, and release the fragrance of your blend. Using a pipette, gradually add fragrance or essential oil to scent your fixatives, mixing well. For fragrance oils, we suggest about 1/4 to 1/2 fl oz per 16 cups potpourri. If using essential oils we suggest 1/16 to 1/4 fl oz. Essential oil is very concentrated, so use sparingly. 

Note: Allow your fixatives to sit for at least 10-15 minutes after after adding oil, then combine with floral and dyed items. This helps minimize discoloration and prevents the color in dyed items from bleeding.  After blending potpourri, transfer to wide-mouth jars or non-metallic containers. Fill 3/4 full, cover tightly and store in cool dark place. Cure (letscents mingle and mellow) for 2 to 6 weeks in order for scent to last. Check fragrance after several days and add more scent if desired.
