What are the differences among the different grades of bulk dried lavender?

Our bulk dried lavender is graded primarily by color, application, and origin.

Our Blue lavender is a grey-purple color with a decent lavender scent that has sweeter apple-like notes. It is preferred for sachets, dream pillows, soaps, crafts, and other uses where color is not as important. This bulk dried lavender is actually lavandin (Lavandula x intermedia), which is a cross of English lavender and spike lavender. It is grown primarily in the Elbasan region of Albania.

Our Extra Blue lavender is a light-blue-purple color with a strong and bright lavender scent. It is preferred for sachets, dream pillows, soaps, and other uses where the fragrance is desired above color. This bulk dried lavender is actually lavandin (Lavandula x intermedia), which is a cross of English lavender and spike lavender. It is grown in the Provence region of France.

Our Super Blue lavender (sometimes called Ultra Blue lavender by other suppliers) is a blue-purple color, with a slightly more subtle floral lavender fragrance. It is best utilized for culinary dishes (particularly savory ones) and in display potpourri, teas, and crafts. This bulk dried lavender is English lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) grown in France. It is grown in the Provence region of France.

Do you offer Ultra Blue lavender?

Many firms sell what we offer as Super Blue lavender under the name Ultra Blue lavender. We have purposefully not done this as true Ultra Blue lavender should be the darkest grade offered with a very deep blue color and a sweeter, almost fruity lavender scent. If is not often available in large quantities due to its steep price and limited availability.
